Art sticks!

I've been making art out of sticks recently and discovered how easy it is to turn a stick into a creature by adding a pompom!

If you fancy doing something similar you can see my demo of how to make mini pompoms here. You use your fingers so all you need is some wool and a pair of scissors! I've also used acrylic paint and Posca paint pens to decorate the sticks so they are weather proof. Plus string, pipe cleaners and beads.

I'm pretty sure I've turned some of these sticks into magic wands too.

Sticks (and other natural objects) are good for projecting ideas onto so it's easy to imagine they are something else; a troll, duck, alien for example. Especially with the addition of a pompom I've discovered!

These Art Sticks will  be on display at Redcatch Community Garden by Roots cafe (open for takeaway only at the moment) and I will add to them regularly. Feel free to check them out - if you would like to take one away you could either replace it with one you have made or make a donation to the Garden.

If you make an Art Stick I would love to see a picture of it!

Jenny :-)

Jenny Clarke. I run Happymess (art, craft and messy play classes for young children). I have two small children who love to get messy and make things. I also like to see as much art as I can. This blog is about art, craft and messy play activities you can try out at home, art to see with your children, and the occasional Happymess event you can come along to!
